How our products are made

Creating value and procuring raw materials is something we do 100% in the Black Forest. That’s where we’re right at home, where we make our wood pulp board, and from where we get our wood and water. This enables us to maintain the exacting quality of our products while making sure that our supply chain is as manageable as the list of ingredients we use.

The term “sustainability” comes from forestry. It means that forests need to be managed in such a way that future generations will also get to enjoy them. And this is a core philosophy that has been part of our DNA from the very beginning of our long history.

However, this is not enough by itself, which is why we’re continuously improving our environmental practices and doing everything within our power to fulfill our responsibility to future generations.

Creating value and procuring raw materials is something we do right here in our region: We make our wood pulp board here in Weisenbach, and our home – the Black Forest – is the perfect supplier of the wood and water we need for that board. This wood comes from thinning activities within a radius of 250 kilometers, while the water we get comes from the Murg river, which is the namesake of the valley where Weisenbach is located. This enables us to keep our supply chain short and our environmental footprint small.

For us, production waste is something we can reuse as a starting material. Basically put, everything we produce is something we can feed back into our production loop at any time. And with a recycling rate of 98.9%, almost all our waste stays in our raw material loop.

We use a closed-loop water system. As a result, we only need a fraction of the fresh water volume that comparable production operations require. In addition, we were able to cut our water consumption and the associated wastewater volume by half in the last five years, and are continuing to work on reducing them further.

Wood is naturally a high-tech material. And with our one-of-a-kind know-how, we’re able to take wood, starch, and water and turn these supposedly simple ingredients into an ingenious special material from local groundwood pulp fibers that we can optimize for a broad variety of applications.

Water is not just an important raw material for us, but is also crucial in that it provides us with the energy we need for our production operations. In fact, we cover 51.1% of our total power consumption with energy from renewable sources. It’s against this backdrop that we’ve invested 3.8 million euros into upgrading our hydroelectric power stations, all while incorporating fish ladders into the upgrades.

Do anything you want! Wood pulp board is a true all-rounder and the perfect raw material for a wide variety of products: from conventional beverage coasters; to POS signs, air fresheners, and food mats; to impact noise insulation elements and oil absorbent boards.

In order to deliver greater versatility, we offer wood pulp board in the form of rolls or sheets in addition to our finished products.

Sustainability is also one of our core considerations when it comes to printing, which is why we use mineral-oil-free inks for our beverage coasters.

All our products are characterized by properties that ensure superlative results when printing, laminating, and creating composites with paper or film – making them perfect for premium hanging signs and props.
